Church Growth Overseas

I very much agree Ken. Our blindspots are not only revealed by our lack of fruit but by what we focus on when we see fruit in other places. In my experience when North Americans experience fruitlessness they turn to tactics and strategy. We need to find new music, new preaching styles, new strategies. All these things are fine by themselves. Missiology is all about exposing our own cultural filters and examining them to see if our baggage is getting in the way of being all things to all people. What we have more difficulty embracing is the fact that the verbal component of our witness (Acts 1:8) is only one small aspect of that witness. The bulk of it is of course how we actually live our lives and on that score we tend to be nearly indistinguishable from many around us. In our subversive strategy (Eugene Peterson) blending in can be a good strategy, but at heart we should be motivated and animated by something other than the self-salvation chasing normal to the broken human heart.
